1.1 Shared Vision
Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. (PSC 1.1/ISTE 1a)
Artifact
My Shared Vision was created to help guide me and our technology committee in developing a stronger technology plan for our school. By holding discussions with relevant stakeholders, it is my hope that my Shared Vision will help open the door for an Educational Technology Committee at McClure and begin to create a dialogue with our stakeholders to provide transparency and to ensure that all students, teachers, administrators, and parents have a voice concerning how technology is integrated at our school. I collaborated with both the faculty and administration in my school when gathering information for the Shared Vision.
Standard 1.1, Shared Vision Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. This artifact demonstrates that I have the knowledge and skills to develop and implement a technology plan that is in line with state and national technology standards. Allen (2017) states that successful teaching combines rigor and “features both online learning and experiential face-to-face time.” My shared vision keeps that tenet at its core because I now have successful teaching experience using both online methods and face-to-face instruction, and I know that this statement is true. By developing an Educational Technology Committee, this issue as well as many others could more be more easily identified, and solutions could be implemented. In my Shared Vision, I outlined the various roles and team members who could work to develop and ultimately implement concerns and gaps that are identified as being needed by faculty, staff, and other stakeholders as we continue to grow as an organization.
The Shared Vision project was one of the most enlightening projects in my ITEC studies. It provided me a tremendous amount of information that has helped me understand what needs we have as a school and how challenging it is to meet those needs (Sheninger, 2019) (Steele, 2019). By conducting surveys and interviews, I gained confidence in my vision and the project gave me the support needed to lead a technology team. The survey I used for my Shared Vision was one already in place, conducted by another faculty member. I feel that by implementing a technology committee, we could create an even more personalized survey that could help determine other pressing needs we need as a school. This could make my artifact even stronger.
The research and analysis conducted for my Shared Vision could directly help improve my school and its technology needs. Implementing an Educational Technology Committee would help make our faculty, and students stronger, and would contribute to an increase in their skills and digital literacy. This Shared Vision identifies roles and team members who could contribute immediately to enhance both teaching and learning at McClure Middle School. My Shared Vision, along with other resources I have developed during my studies as an ITEC graduate student help position me as a digital leader who possess the mastery needed to be an effective digital leader. My artifact could be measured by goals set by our school’s strategic plan.
